This is Theodore Bear. He has never had a problem in his life and yet he is so small. He has an actual mane, like a very tiny lion. He has the wettest eyes of any animal who has ever lived. He lives with my parents and his adoptive brother Al, not shown, who is very large.

He would like to tell you about his problems (fake).

I’m trying to write a “quick” reference doc of in-universe common knowledge for the players in my ttrpg campaign but every time I sit down to edit, it expands by another 200 words. The section on orbital dynamics is now almost a full page. There should not be a section on orbital dynamics. Why do I have chronic terminal writer brain. H e l p

@tadrinth replies:

QNTM wrote an piece suggesting that you should world build at least one degree outside what you’re going to actually show in your story, because it gives the story a level of verisimilitude that’s hard to get otherwise. So under that advice, figure all that stuff out, but don’t tell all of it to your players. Put it in the GM notes. The players should know that seasons are long, the GM can know that it’s because of the elliptical orbit.

Excellent point.

And also, I’ve been reading qntm’s stuff for a long while now, both fiction and non-fiction, and I highly recommend checking him out. Here’s the worldbuilding essay in question:

Going to go ahead and plug his fiction (original works and SCP Foundation stuff), which can loosely be described as “high-concept science-fantasy action.” Most of it is available for free, but consider purchasing an e-book to support an indie author!
